If your periods stop, it’s important to work out why. Here’s a great starting point with some reasons for missed periods.
Sometimes your periods may stop altogether, a condition known as amenorrhea. What’s this disappearing act all about? You do need to find an explanation. There may be a serious reason, but it’s often easy to work out! Here are a few possibilities and reasons for missed periods. Make sure that you get in touch with your doctor to pinpoint the exact cause.
- Pregnancy.
- Dramatic weight loss.
- Excessive exercise, like running more than 40 miles per week, or elite training in ballet/ gymnastics, etc.
- Polycystic ovary syndrome (multiple cysts on the ovary).
- Birth control pills - taking some very low dose birth control pills may mean little or no menstrual cycle flow and are a classic non-scary reason for a missed period.
